Caring for your Marble Floor
Proper care of your floor
prevents damage, extends its life and keeps it looking new for years. How do you
properly care for your marble or natural stone flooring?
The first step is to treat it
properly day in and day out. Take your shoes off at the door. Why remove
your shoes? Even if you can't see the dirt on the bottoms of your shoes, they
are covered with small particles of dirt and oils. These things grind away
at the surface of your floor causing the dirt to be ground in, and your floors
stubbornly refusing to come clean.
If you want to be even more
cautious, wear socks while you are inside. This prevents the natural oil
from your feet making the floor surface dirtier.
Always vacuum or dust hard floor
surfaces before mopping.
Marble Floors
Use only warm water on
marble floors. Do not use detergents or vinegar, as they may damage the marble
surface. Wring out all excess moisture from a towel and damp mop. Immediately
follow with a dry towel. Always dry marble floors to keep them looking their
best, since they spot easily.
